New CCN Requirements: April 1999

On Thursday April 15, 1999, the WPI Faculty approved several changes to CS courses in the networking area, and to the requirements for the Computer and Communications Networks (CCN) specialization. The CCN specialization is available to students in the CS and ECE master's degree programs.

The principal changes to the CCN requirements are:

  1. Changes to the lists of courses to remove courses that are no longer offered, and include some new courses.
  2. Changes to the internship requirement. Instead of requiring an industrial internship, there is now a project requirement that can be satisfied by an industrial internship, a thesis in the area of networking, or, for students with adequate industrial experience, additional course work.

These changes will take effect in the 1999-2000 academic year. Please get in touch with Prof. David Finkel (dfinkel@cs.wpi.edu) if you have questions about how these changes will affect students already in the program.

CCN Degree Requirements

If this requirement is waived, the student must take two additional courses from the list of elective courses above, or two additional courses approved by the department's Graduate Program Committee.

Courses may be chosen from relevant graduate-level courses in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, mathematics, or management. Some students in the computer science degree program will need to use these electives to satisfy the area requirements for the CS master's degree program.
