Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Scholarship
David C. Brown of Jefferson, Mass., professor of computer science, received the 1997 WPI Trustees' Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Scholarship.
A native of London, Brown earned a bachelor's degree at North Staffordshire Polytechnic in Stafford, England, a master's degree at the university of Kent at Canterbury, and a master's and doctorate at Ohio State University. He joined the faculty in 1980.
An internationally recognized expert in artificial intelligence as applied to design, Brown has made contributions to several fundamental areas of the AI in design field, including single function agent based design, learning in multiagent design systems, routine design modeling, conflict resolution and concurrent engineering. He has compiled an extensive publication record and has served on numerous editorial boards and scientific conference committees.
