Milestones In Computer Science Distinguished Lecture Series
The WPI Computer Science Department is proud to announce the "Milestones In Computer Science Distinguished Lecture Series".
The series is designed to highlight major contributions to the field of Computer Science by past and present Researchers, Engineers, and Business leaders that have shaped our field.
Our first lecture in the series is on Friday, September 12, 2003 at the Odeum Room of the Campus Center at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, it is entitled: The High Performance Microprocessor in the Year 2013: Will the laws of Physics finally catch up with the Microprocessor development cycle?
The speaker, Dr. Yale N. Patt, is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Ernest Cockrell, Jr. Centennial Chair in Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Patt is a well know researcher in the area of High Performance microprocessor architecture. His contributions are many but include serving as consultant to Intel Corporation where many of his ideas have helped shape the Microarchitecture of next generation Intel processors.
In the coming months we will have:
- Daniel Siewiorek, Buhl University Professor of ECE and CS; Director of HCII, and a pioneer in the area of Dependable Computing over the last twenty years;
- Mr. Robert Everett, past President of MITRE Corporation, who will be discussing his experiences at MIT Lincoln Lab where he worked together with Jay Forrester in the development of Whirlwind, the first computer designed for real-time applications. Mr. Everett is a past recipient of the National Medal of Technology;
- Mr. Fred Weber, vice president of engineering for the Computation Products Group at AMD. Mr. Weber has been a pioneer in the development of High Performance Microprocessors, specifically the development of the AMD- K6® processor, and the AMD AthlonT processor;
- Dr. Sam H. Fuller, Vice President of Research & Development, Analog Devices.
The series is being sponsored by the Computer Science Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and will have a speaker once a month during the academic year.
We invite every faculty member, engineer, business leader, graduate and undergraduate student, and staff member in the area to attend the series.
