Tenure Track Faculty Position
Starting August 2003
Do you want the combination of a research university teaching load with a liberal arts college environment? Do you like engaging undergraduates together with graduates in long-term, open-ended projects? Would you enjoy doing interdisciplinary research, experiencing the interplay between technology and society, and helping students apply their technical skills in global settings?
If so, you should consider joining the faculty at WPI!
WPI is an elite national university in Worcester, MA, with an enrollment of 3,700, including 1000 graduate students. It has a core focus on engineering, science and the management of technology, and grants degrees in more than 30 disciplines. WPI's acclaimed and long- standing project-based undergraduate curriculum is singled out by professional societies as a model program. That curriculum, combined with a significant graduate program, offers faculty a unique balance between research and teaching.
The Computer Science Department intends to recruit tenure-track faculty. Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field, and the potential for excellence in research and teaching.
Our search priorities this year are for junior appointments in the areas of Databases, Software Systems, Human-Computer Interaction and Algorithms. However, outstanding candidates for any rank and area will get full consideration.
The department grants BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science, and has a Computer and Communications Networks graduate program, jointly with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department. Our programs for the MS, BS and PhD were started in 1969, 1970 and 1983, respectively.
Faculty research is funded by federal agencies (such as NSF, NAE and DARPA) and industrial collaborators. The department is now the largest at WPI in terms of number of students, with more than 600 majors and over 100 full-time MS and PhD students.
The department currently has 18 tenure-track faculty. We expect a large increase in faculty size over the coming years, and hope to maintain the exceptionally close-knit, collegial atmosphere we currently enjoy. Please refer to our web site at http://www.cs.wpi.edu/ for complete information.
