Top Coder

The department is pleased to announce that Andrew Marut, class of 2004, has reached the top 16 finalists at the TopCoder Collegiate Challenge competing for the grand prize of $100,000!

In TopCoder competitions, competitors are required to properly code algorithms and correctly identify errors in competitors' solutions in order to advance in a tournament.

The sixteen finalists were challenged through six levels of competition: a qualifying round, and three online rounds. They are now heading into the two on- site championship rounds in San Francisco, CA.

The semi-finalist will be held on Tuesday June 5th and Wednesday June 6th with the championship round on Thursday June 7th. The finals will be held at the San Francisco Hilton and Towers.

The winners of the semi-finals receive:

4th place: $ 3,000
3rd place: $ 5,750
2nd place: $10,000
1st place: $25,000

In the championship round, 4 coders compete, and the winner gets $75,000.

UPDATE: 12th July 2001: Marut was second in his group, winning $10,000.
