Research & Facilities

Research and education are tightly connected in the WPI Computer Science Department. We now teach concepts and techniques that were considered cutting edge research just a few years ago. Computer Science moves quickly, and we move with it.

An essential part of educating computer scientists is to expose them to current research and the research process: we do this early and often. We provide opportunities, and our students make significant research contributions.

Research in the Department is organized around Research Groups. Each group blends faculty and students, including advanced undergraduates as well as graduate students.

Research team members can be involved in tasks ranging from delving into research literature, to the design, implementation, testing, and evaluation of individual algorithms or large-scale systems.

Our research is supported by agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Army, Office of Naval Research, National Security Agency, IBM, and Microsoft.
