Majordomo List Instructions
The CS Department at WPI provides a mailing list for each course to encourage productive discussion of the class topic. Several on-campus research groups and ethnic groups are also served by the CS majordomo list software.
Requests to join mailing lists, or to obtain information about them, can be obtained via email. Commands should be sent in the body of an email message to:
majordomo@<site>
depending on what you require. Commands in the "Subject:" line of the message are NOT processed. For Computer Science maintained lists, <site> refers to "cs" -- i.e., the email address majordomo@cs
This page contains the information mailed by majordomo when the help command is specified.
Commands
In the description below items contained in [ ]'s are optional. When providing the item, do not include the [ ]'s around it.
The following commands are understood:
- subscribe [<list>] [<address>]
- Subscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) to the named <list>.
- unsubscribe [<list>] [<address>]
- Unsubscribe yourself (or <address> if specified) from the named <list>.
- get [<list>] <filename>
- Get a file related to <list>.
- index [<list>]
- Return an index of files you can "get" for <list>.
- which [<address>]
- Find out which lists you (or <address> if specified) are on.
- who [<list>]
- Find out who is on the named <list>.
- info [<list>]
- Retrieve the general introductory information for the named <list >.
- lists
- Show the lists served by this Majordomo server.
- help
- Retrieve this message.
- end
- Stop processing commands (useful if your mailer adds a signature).
Commands should be sent in the body of an email message to majordomo@<site> or to <list>-request@<site>.
The <list> parameter is only optional if the message is sent to an address of the form <list>-request@<site>.
Note
To assist TAs and faculty, the class mailing lists and student files for turnin are created every term for the classes offered.
Students registering late can add themselves to a mailing list by sending a message to majordomo@cs.wpi.edu in the following format:
subscribe <course>
Student's dropping a course can remove themselves from a list by sending a message to majordomo@cs.wpi.edu in the following format:
unsubscribe <course>
where <course> is the course name, cs1005 for example.
