Major Project (MQP) Opportunities

The MQP (major qualifying project) is a large research-oriented project done by every undergraduate in their senior year. It demonstrates the application of the skills, methods, and knowledge of their major, Computer Science, to the solution of a problem of the type they might encounter during their career. Project teams are usually 2-3 people with at least one faculty advisor.

Typical projects include research, development, theory, and evaluation. Projects may be are experimental or theoretical, and usually emphasize a particular subarea of the major. All projects are presented in public, usually in April, but CS projects that finish in A or B terms may be presented in December. Projects are often related to faculty research, and some are externally sponsored. Some projects result in publications.

Descriptions of the MQP (and the IQP) are available in the WPI Undergraduate Catalog. Descriptions of specific projects can be found in the links listed below.

The Projects Program web pages provide help with getting started, keeping going, and writing a report. They also give lists of suggested projects, and past projects.

Presentation of CS Faculty Project Interests
