Now that the hype about Windows 95 has died down, we take a look at Windows 95 as an operating system. This talk will not address how to use Windows 95, but how it operates internally. The talk will require some background in operating systems; it would be appropriate for students who have completed or are currently taking CS 3013, CS 502 or the equivalent.
We will discuss the architecture of Windows 95, specifically process creation, interprocess communications, memory management, and the file system, and compare Windows 95 with other operating systems, principally DOS/Windows 3.1 and Unix.
