Abstract

A study was conducted on an effective way to select a game server for a group of people wanting to play together in a First Person Shooter game using playability and fairness as metrics. The average ping and standard deviation to game servers from the clients are used to calculate playability and fairness for the purpose of identifying suitable servers. Analysis of wide-scale Internet data suggests methods to identify acceptable servers for a group of players.
