SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
REPRESENTING FUNCTIONALITY IN DESIGN
Knowledge of functionality is useful in a wide variety of
design-related activities, including generation and modification of
designs, comparison/evaluation/selection of designs, and
explanation/diagnosis/repair of designs. A formal representation of
functionality is essential for supporting any of these activities on
computers. The goal of this special issue is to bring together the
state of knowledge of representing functionality in design, a rapidly
growing area of design research. Substantial contributions are sought
in (but not limited to) any of the above areas. It is expected that the
author(s) should address at least the following:
-
- The issues that a functional representation should address.
- The functional representation proposed by the authors.
- An example of its application in a technical domain,
- The distinctive features of this representation and its areas of applicability
(i.e., the design activities it is intended to support, and the domain of its application).
- The state of development and a vision of its completed form.
